Lent provides us with the opportunity to stop and reflect over the past year and consider how we can become closer to God in the coming year. We have all done a lot of reflection in the last year as a result of the situation we have found ourselves and had time to consider the changes we would like to make to our lives when we finally reach the other side. Well, that time is coming. Let us use this period of Lent to prepare ourselves for what is to come and to ensure that we emerge a better person, and one closer to God, when we reach Easter. With this in mind, Year 1 have made a Lenten Challenge jar and each day we pick out a new challenge that we will try to carry out either in school, or at home - can you spot your child trying to carry out this challenge? I do hope so…..we will continue with this when we all return to school on the 8th March.
Returning to school……we will welcome all children back to school on 8th March - please see Miss Haggerty’s recent post regarding this. Whilst we are delighted to have all our school family back together again, it is still vital that we stick to social distancing rules, wear masks whilst on school grounds for drop off and pick up times and ensure that if your child is unwell you keep them at home. We must do all we can to keep each other safe to ensure that our Year 1 bubble remains open to all. Many thanks for your continued support with this.
On a lighter note……Thursday 4th March is World Book Day!
We would like to invite all children in school and at home to dress up as a BOOK character for a day filled with reading fun! If your child is at home, please send photos of their reading, work and costumes through class dojo, and at school Mrs Veasey and Miss Collins will be delighted to see you all dressed up for the day. Please see details for World Book Day activities on the HOME LEARNING page. To support our work on World Book Day Miss Heim-Sarac has arranged a Reading Bookmark Competition, supported by our wonderful PTFA. Whether your child is at school or at home they can all join in! If at home, please send your completed bookmark back to me by email year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk by Monday 8th March. The competition will be judged at school and all winners will be announced on Friday 12th March. (There will be a class winner and an overall KS1 and KS2 winner, with prizes having been donated by the PTFA.)

School Leaner Award - Stephen for wonderful reading and English work this week.
Well done Year 1 - I am so proud of you all - keep up the hard work at home - it will really help you for coming back to school.
And finally……
Please contact me through Class Dojo or email (year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk) if you need anything and I will do my best to help. I continue to be in school on Monday’s and Tuesday’s, with Mrs Veasey in class the rest of the week, so I may be a little slower in getting back to you on those days that I am in school.
HOME LEARNING will be posted in the Home Learning section of the website by lunchtime on a Friday so that it is ready for the week ahead. It is now a government expectation that work is sent into teachers - please send work to me by 12pm on a Friday — or daily if you prefer. (Daily does actually help me to keep on top of it!) I will need to follow up on any children I do not hear from - so please do what you can to post your child’s work in the Portfolio section of Class Dojo - this keeps it all together and makes a lovely folder of all your child’s work during lockdown. I must say that the children’s folders are looking super. Thank-you so much.
As this is going to be our last week of Home Learning - please ensure your work is sent to me by the end of the school day on FRIDAY 5TH MARCH. (1.30pmon a Friday) Anything sent after this time will be approved, so it goes into your child’s folder, but it will not be commented on as we will be back at school and I will be focusing on that come Monday 8th March. Many thanks for you help with this matter.
Once again, an enormous THANK-YOU for all your hard work with Home Learning — I am so very grateful for all you are doing to support the children at home and me too.
Keep safe - stay at home. It is in working together that we show our strength.
Year 1…Be good, work hard, stay safe and know that Mrs V, Miss C and I are very proud of you and we miss you. xxx
Thank-you…..Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and Miss Collins
