Good morning all……I had a little cry when I came across this quote this week. It sums up perfectly how I feel about this current situation and the fact that Mrs Veasey and I have not had the chance to have a ‘normal’ year with our little class family. We had so many lovely things planned that we were going to do together - but alas, they never came to be. I am so proud of how you have coped with all of this Year 1 - after over 20 years of teaching, you will always be the class that has a special place in my heart.
This week we are learning……
English - please continue with the Pie Corbett Talk for Writing plan, this is the second week of the two week plan. I have loved seeing the work that you have done already on this story and glad that you have enjoyed it so far.
Phonics - this week our focus in the Home learning plan is ‘tion/sion’ - ‘Pay attention, it’s a celebration’ (this is our little rhyme that we use!). Can you make a list of tion/sion words - such as attention, celebration, explosion and then use them in a sentence? See what words you can come up with! The links below will help with reading and phonic activities. Don’t forget to read everyday, practice the Common Exception words - these are words your child should be able to read, write and spell correctly independently by the end of Year 1. Also keep up the hard work on the pre-cursive handwriting - I have been so impressed to see the children’s lovely writing.

This week our Home School Learning Plan concentrates on Celebrations - there are plenty of opportunities for reading, writing and craft activities here. Art/Design - you could design and make a card to celebrate a special occasion or just to say thank-you to some who has helped you whilst you have been off school. You could design an invitation to invite a special person to a celebration. Writing - you could make a list of lists to buy if you were having a celebration, make a guest list of special people you would invite and what preparations you would need to make. Science - you could investigate the different seasons and the celebrations that take place in them. (The plan concentrates on Spring, but as we are now in Summer, it makes more sense to concentrate on Summer!) Can your child name the seasons and the months that are in each one? We covered this in class so I hope they remember!
Maths - this week we are focused on finding a half and a quarter. I was very impressed with all your money work last week Year 1!

This week the Oddizzi plan focuses on Places and Animals - great to see so many of you using these resources and enjoying them.
SPORTS DAY 6th -8th July - as mentioned last week, we are still planning on going ahead with Sports day this year - granted it will be a little different! Please read the information on the link below and send me your results by WEDNESDAY 8TH JULY AT 4PM to be included in the class count up. For those children in school on Monday and Tuesday we will be completing the activities. Good luck!

Fr Jim continues to post work for the children on his site and you can watch his Mass postings here too. https://www.olablackpool.org/children-s-page
I am in school now on Monday and Tuesday of each week so please excuse my slightly delayed response to emails or Class Dojo - but I will get back to you. Any questions/queries/anything at all, just use the year 1 email address above. Many thanks for everything.
TRANSITION - this week Mr Whetnall will be posting an activity for Year 1 to complete for him as part of the children’s transition to Year 2. Once completed, please email this work to Mr Whetnall at year2@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk. To find out what this activity is, you will need to look at Year 2 News for this week!
Once again, I must say an enormous THANK-YOU to you all for everything you have done, and continue to do, to support me and help the children with their Home Learning. This whole system simply would not work without you and I will be forever in your debt for all that you have done this term. I can’t believe we are nearing the end of the school year like this - it has broken my heart not to have all the class back together again and for things to be as they were. But, here we are and we are making the best of the situation! Thank-you so much.
Year 1…..be good, work hard, safe stay and know that Mrs Veasey and I are so proud of you and we miss you all terribly. Have a good week and show Mr Whetnall what super stars you all are by doing a great job of the task he sets you. Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Veasey
RECEPTION TO YEAR 1 TRANSITION TASK
Good morning Reception….and welcome to Year 1! Moving up to Year 1 is a little different this year - but I would still like to have a chance to get to know more about you before the end of term. This week I would like you to share the story I have added, called The Cautious Caterpillar, and then complete the little activity. If you can print of the format I have added, then use that, but if not, is doesn’t matter - simply draw it out on a piece of plain paper. It would be lovely if you could send a photograph of your child with their work, we can then use these to display when we return to school. Once the activity is completed please email it to me, Mrs Hollinghurst, at year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk by FRIDAY 10th July. Thank-you so much and Reception, I look forward to seeing your lovely drawings and writing all about you! Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Veasey xx
