We are been thinking how we can prepare ourselves to meet Jesus as Christmas time. At this exciting time of year the true meaning of the season can be lost in the rush to write cards, decorate the tree and write to Father Christmas. All of these things are part of the glory of the season - but there are not the main event. We have made our own class Advent Calendar with a promise that we read out each day as to how we can make ourselves a little bit better each day. How are you preparing to meet Jesus?
These are the children who have worked especially hard this week…
Golden Award - Kurt for his super Geography work on the capital cities of the UK
Writing Award - Lily for am amazing retell of the Gingerbread Man and a beautiful piece for writing about Mary and the Angel Gabriel
Maths Award - Dominic for super number line work
This week we have been learning….
English - this week we have had a whole class writing focus. We have been writing the story of the Gingerbread Man - showing all that we have learnt this term. Our beautiful handwriting, careful spelling and capital letters and full spots. They are coming along nicely!
Maths - this week we have been learning to use a number line to help us add two numbers together and work out the missing numbers in calculations.
RE - this week we have been writing about the Annuication - the children wrote some really beautiful pieces of writing about Mary and what the Angel Gabriel said to her.
Topic - this week we located the capital cities of the four countries of the UK and looked at their characteristics - looking for human and physical features.
Everything else this week has been about the Nativity! The children are working really hard and it is coming along nicely. The singing is beautiful and I think they are going to make you proud when you come to watch us…..not long now!
Dates for your diary - Christmas Jumper Day THURSDAY 19TH DECEMBER.Wwe are asking for a £1 donation to charity to wear your Christmas jumper to school on this day. Thank-you.
Christmas Cards - rather than bringing in cards for the whole class, we are asking for just one card for the class and a donation of £1 to CAFOD. Thank-you for your support with this matter. The children have an assembly on CAFOD and their good works on Monday and I know they are keen to support this worth while charity.
Flu Vacations - will take place on Thursday 12th December
Nativity - Tuesday 17th December 9.30am and 2.15pm in the school hall.
Advent Challenge Mass - each Friday during Advent 8.10am; in Church this week and then the rest in school
A reminder that if your child has been sick they cannot return to school for a full 48 hours after the last incident. Thank-you - this is so important in our fight against germs.
Have a lovely weekend……Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
