Here are just a few things for the children to be getting on with this week whilst they are off school.

I have added two days of Maths activities based on ordinal numbers and using a number line, which we have been doing in school and then two days of new content based on the part part whole model which we have not yet covered in class, but will be doing this week. This is all about splitting up numbers so a 5 can be 4+1 or 2+3 or 5+0.

Follow this link to take you to some videos that will help the children with their Maths work this week.

For English, I have added an online unit based on listening to a story and writing about it - I have added this site because it has videos of the story and clear instructions as to what to do. Thought it would be straightforward for you all.

Please take a look at Education City - password in the front of the children’s reading records

https://www.educationcity.com/

There are two phonic games - I will add some more activities to the children’s accounts then they have a few other things to keep them going! Look in the Homework section.

Also, use homework page on class blog for Phase 3 phonics, handwriting and Oxford Owl site.  http://www.ourladyassumption-sch.co.uk/yr1-homework

Phonics Focus for this week - ‘ow’ as in brown cow and ‘oi’ as in spoil the boy. BBC Bitesize is super for Phonics support and KS1 activities in general. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/levels/z3g4d2p

Maths - Monday

Maths Tuesday

Maths Wednesday

Maths Thursday

I will add to this blog throughout the week, but I thought this would be enough to get you through today! Please DO NOT bring in the children’s work to school - but do post pictures into the PORTFOLIO section of Class Dojo.

Try to do three hours of school work - 30 minutes of Phonics and Reading, 45 minutes of English and handwriting practice, 45 minutes of Maths including Mental Maths (we are working on doubling and halving within 10, adding one more or one less to a number under 30 in class) and an hour of Topic based work in the afternoon. Just try your best - that is all I ask - I know it is very hard when you are working at home too.

Monday - RE we are looking at how God keeps his promises. In class we will be making a rainbow to show this - a little like this one! If you have some coloured paper at home, then you could have a go too. See picture at the bottom of the blog.

Tuesday - we are continuing in the afternoon with our Science topic all about Humans - today concentrating on ourselves. I have added a little measuring investigation. At this stage Yr1 use other objects to help them measure - like in the example - so don’t worry if you don’t have a tape measure or ruler at home! Record your results and send them in. Don’’t worry if you can’t print out the sheets sent - just make your own on a piece of paper. Science Investigation

Wednesday - Local Study. This week we are going to focus on Physical and Humans features of Blackpool and our landmarks - such as the tower. Physical features are the elements that are there in nature, like trees, bushes and the human features are the man-made aspects of the land like roads, house and street lamps. Please could the children draw and colour a little picture in the right box and then label it. Features Activity

Thursday - our afternoon will be spent free painting, using all of the skills we have learnt this half term, like mixing secondary colours, how to paint circles and lines, using different sizes of brush to create our own master piece of our own creation. So have a go at home, paint me a lovely picture and I look forward to seeing them through Class Dojo!

Many thanks
