If your child is self isolating this week, here is their work for the week ahead….
Maths - This week we will continue with our work on the Part Part Whole model - a diagram to help the children see how a number(the whole) can be broken up into two separate groups (the parts). The work this week also introduces the addition sign in a way that shows the children that addition can be done in any order. We will also move on to talk about Number Bonds to 10 and basic addition. We also use a ten frame for this work - the children know what these are - just a grid with 5 squares along the top and 5 along the bottom.
If you could make a part part whole diagram at home to support the children’s learning, that would be great. Just drawn on a piece of paper and buttons will do as counters, or pieces of pasta! The videos will support the children’s learning.
This is a continuation of our work from last week - so those of you who were self-isolating last week, it is plenty more practice on this topic. As a result there is just ONE White Rose Maths sheet and lesson video for this week and the rest of the work is through Oak Academy. I don’t want the children at home to be covering things that we have not covered in class.
Follow this link to take you to some video that will help the children with their Maths work on Monday. You will just need the last of these video to support the lesson.

Maths work for Tuesday - Friday https://classroom.thenational.academy/units/numbers-to-10-526c
PLEASE START AT LESSON 2 ON TUESDAY AND GO THROUGH TO LESSON 5 ON FRIDAY. There is a teacher video introduction and then an activity to follow. If you can print off the activity sheets great, if not, don’t worry just do it on paper and send me those pictures. These lesson are all about finding number numbers and showing the children that there is always more than one way to reach a total.
For English, I have added an online unit based on listening to a story and writing about it - I have added this site because it has videos of the story and clear instructions as to what to do. Thought it would be straightforward for you all. Please follow the link below and then click on the MONEYS AND HATS: PROBLEMS box - this will take you to a ten lesson plan - this will see you through two weeks of home learning. Enjoy!! For those of you who were self isolating last week, just continue with this unit as there is enough here for two weeks - those just starting, start at the beginning!

Please take a look at Education City - password in the front of the children’s reading records and I will ensure that your child has work that they can access on this site.
https://www.educationcity.com/
Also, use homework page on class blog for Phase 3 phonics, handwriting and Oxford Owl site. http://www.ourladyassumption-sch.co.uk/yr1-homework
Phonics Focus for this week - ‘ir’ whirl and twirl and ‘ou’ shout it out. BBC Bitesize is super for Phonics support and KS1 activities in general. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/levels/z3g4d2p
Please DO NOT bring in the children’s work to school - but do post pictures into the PORTFOLIO section of Class Dojo.
Try to do three hours of school work - 30 minutes of Phonics and Reading, 45 minutes of English and handwriting practice, 45 minutes of Maths including Mental Maths (we are working on doubling and halving within 10, adding one more or one less to a number under 30 in class) and an hour of Topic based work in the afternoon. Just try your best - that is all I ask - I know it is very hard when you are working at home too.
Monday - RE we are looking at the Annuication and why Mary is such a special lady to us. Last week we wrote abut what the Angel Gabriel and Mart said to each other, this week we are going to focus on Mary and collect words to describe how Mary felt about what Gabriel had said to her and what she thought about it and then use these words to write sentences about Mary’s feelings. Activity
Tuesday - we are continuing in the afternoon with our Science topic all about Animals - today we will work in partners to group our animal photos as to whether they are omnivores, carnivores or herbivores. Activity Power Point
Wednesday - focus on the North Sea and its characteristics. Today we will look at where the North Sea is and what lives in the sea. We will use the photos I have added to make up our own college picture of sea creatures and name them. If you can print them off, great, if not then the children could have a go at drawing a few of the creatures that live in the North sea and name them. Have a go at making a super poster/fact file as to what lives in the North Sea. Photographs This video is AMAZING for showing the children what lives in the North Sea! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94whXVtZAQg
Thursday - we will be continuing with our sewing topic. Mrs Veasey will start taking the children in small groups to make their sea creature. The rest of us will do a sea creature themed art activity in class. These look fun for our this week - all you need is a paper plate and a bit of green paper or paint, or failing that, just a crayon/felt tips!! Have a go and see what you can create!
Friday - there are no activities set as all the children finish at 1.15pm.
Any problems, just let me know and please post photos of the children’s work in the porfolio section of Class Dojo.
Many thanks…Mrs Hollinghurst
