Thank you!
Let me begin by thanking all of my class for a successful first half term in Year 6. You have all shown dedication to your learning and I have been so pleased to see what each of you have achieved so far. This gives me so much hope for the year ahead!
This Week's Learning...
In RE this week we have been focused on the Sacrament of Baptism. We watched a video detailing what happens during Baptism, noting any symbols and gestures. We then used the information we had gathered to create a 'lift the flap' information sheet all about Baptism.
Practice SATs papers- Last week the class sat their first practice SATs papers, and I was so impressed with their attitude towards these. This week, they received their scores and feedback. I have sent each child home with their scores just so you have an idea where they are currently at. Please do not worry if your child is not yet at the expected score. These first papers tend to be most children's lower scores as it is the first time they have sat these type of papers. They are used predominantly to identify any gaps so we can plug these moving forward.
In Maths our focus has been on fractions (again!), but this time focusing on dividing fractions by integers (whole numbers) and solving mixed fraction problems. We have also used our maths lessons this week to go over questions from the arithmetic and reasoning papers that we did last week.
In English we started our new unit, 'Classic Fiction'. These week we debated the question 'Can modern fiction be classified as classic? Each child then wrote a balanced argument up in their books, outlining the arguments for, against and their own opinion.
In Science we wrote up a conclusion based on the investigation we did last week: How does exercise affect our heart rate? As our unit on 'Animals, Including Humans' came to an end this week, we also completed our end of unit topic test.
In History we have been looking at some Blackpool censuses from 1891. We have used these to make comparisons with Blackpool today and Blackpool during the Victorian times. It was so interesting to look at the occupations of people now and then to help get a picture of how times have changed! I also explain to the class how I searched some archives to find the Blackpool census from 1891 and many showed an interest in searching the archives themselves. I said I would share the website on here, so the following link should take you to that page:
