In Year 3 the children were challenged to be exceptional last week and this week our focus has been to be respectful, towards our peers, teachers and classroom. The children have also been thinking about the importance of thankfulness this week in our class worships, thanking God for his only son, Jesus and for our family and friends.

Here is what we have been learning this week…

In Maths we have continued to focus on place value. The children have been completing part-part-whole models for numbers up to 1000.

In English we have been working on The Iron Man, our first English unit. The children have been looking at an approaching threat narrative and learning new vocabulary, in preparation for writing their own approaching threat narrative.

In science, the children have been learning about nutrients and they have been looking at nutrition labels on different foods. The children were able to identify which foods were a healthy choice and which were an occasional treat.

In History we have started our learning about the Stone Age, Iron Age and the Bronze Age.

In PE, the children have been enjoying invasion games, rugby and netball.

In Music, the children learned a song called Sparkle in the Sun and we had a go at playing the recorder!

I look forward to sharing some photos once I have an updated photo permission list for Year 3.

  • Date for your diary: Friday 26th September ‘European Languages Day’ Year 3’s country is Greece, so children are invited to come into school dressed in the colours of the national flag of Greece: blue and white. There should be a donation of £1 paid via parent pay for this.
  • Reading books - we have completed our STAR Reading tests and each child has been given their ZPD range. This has been written in the front of their reading log and it is important that they choose a book within this range, ideally at the top end. Please ensure they get their reading records signed every time they read at home. The children are learning to quiz in school once they have finished their book, before they can choose a new one.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
