Yesterday, Thursday 11th November, marked Armistice Day. In class we reminded ourselves of why we mark this special day; remembering all the fallen and injured soldiers from wars past and present. We honoured the 2 minutes silence at 11am and dedicated our art lesson to painting poppies, which are a symbol of remembrance for those who have lost their lives in the wars….

Here’s what else we have been up to this week…

In Maths we started the week solving problems involving the addition and subtraction of mixed numbers and we ended the week on long division.

In English we have been deepening our understanding of a text by highlighting what the opening of The Wizard of Oz tells us and what it shows us. We have also watched a clip of the cyclone from the opening scene of the film and analysed cinematic choices of sound. We are now collecting word, phrases and sentences to describe the cyclone, in preparation for the poem we will be writing next week.

In Science we have been classifying micro-organisms. We have looked at three main groups: fungus, bacteria and viruses.

In RE we have studied the life and actions of Mother Teresa, and how her actions were informed by her religious beliefs. We have used references from the scripture to support our ideas.

In Art we use a particular paining technique to create our poppy pieces of artwork (see above). Just by using simple brush strokes and a finer paint brush for detail, we created some beautiful pieces of art.
