This week is UK Parliament week and Year 5 have been learning all about the work and role of UK Parliament. We’ve been looking at the structure of Parliament and our democracy, making laws, elections and voting as a way of getting our voices heard. We thought it would be good to get everyone in school involved in a vote so we organised a vote for the whole school. Year 5 went into all classes this week to talk about UK Parliament week and to introduce our fun Christmas vote for an event that will take place in school on the morning of Wednesday 18th December . All children were asked to vote for one of three choices of fun activities that they can take part in, to celebrate Christmas. The choice with the biggest number of votes will decide the theme of their morning. Once the votes have all been counted, the result will be announced. This activity will be Christmas themed so the children will be able to wear their Christmas accessories.

Our learning this week…
In English we’ve been writing space acrostic poems and we’ve begun to plan our next big write: a formal report.
Our focus in maths has been using addition and subtraction to solve problems.
In RE the children have been working with Mrs Mannix and learning about the covenants made with God
This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Emily and Martha. The theme of their liturgy was Love that lasts. In this Gospel, Mark 13:24-32, we learn that God loves us in the past, present and future and even death doesn’t change His love for us! The gospel teaches us that Jesus is coming back, and although we don’t know exactly when, we can be ready by trusting in God’s love throughout the changes that might come!During their liturgy, the girls’ asked the class to write a prayer to show their trust in God.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Mark 13:31)
In science, the children have explored the effects of air resistance.
In art the children have taken part in an art competition hosted by Blackpool South’s MP, Chris Webb, as part of UK Parliament this week.
In PE the children are working with PE specialist Charlie from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The unit for this half term is dance.
The BEBCMAT Rock Stars Super League has a new competition, which started on Monday and runs till the 20th December. Good luck everyone!
Our school is currently in 3rd place out of 12 schools in the trust and we have scored 1403 points (school average score) so far.
