Well I really can’t believe that it’s time to say goodbye already. Can you? This year has gone by so quickly and although it has been another strange year, I’ve loved it (and I really hope you all have too) . I have enjoyed getting to know each of you individually and I am so proud of all of you! You have all been little stars and have worked so hard throughout the year, both in school and at home during lockdown, and have demonstrated such great resilience. Every single one of you has a wonderful and individual personality and as a group, you are an outstanding class. I know you will continue to make us proud in Year 6 and show Mrs Murphy (Miss Slater is now married!) what you are capable of!
Year 5 Achievements
Our end of year Golden Award…
Normally the end of year Golden Award’s are given out by Miss Haggerty at church during the Year 6 Leaver’s mass. However, this year Miss Haggerty announced these awards through a lovely video message to all classes and the award winners received their certificate in class. During the video, Father Jim also congratulated the children and then gave a special blessing to all of Our Lady’s children.
Congratulations to Year 5’s end of year Golden Award winner, Isabelle! Isabelle has really shone this year! She has worked so incredibly hard, showing great determination, resilience and a fabulous growth mindset in everything she has done. Well done Isabelle, you are a star!
Our Reading Champions…
Well done to our reading champions this half term who have all completed bookmarks for reading regularly at home…
When the children read regularly, golden tickets are given out and then we do a draw at the end of each half term. Well done to Lila, who is our golden ticket winner.
Bedrock Competition
Well done to all of Year 5 who achieved 120 points or more on Bedrock over this last half term. I wish you all luck for the Bedrock prize draw! A big congratulations goes to our Bedrock Champion, Olivia, and well done to all the other children on our TOP 5 scoreboard. Well done!
Here is our TOP 5 on the scoreboard this week:
1 Olivia 319 points ⭐️Bedrock Champion ⭐️
2 Evie 222 points
3 Isabelle 182 points
4 Laciee 181 points
5 Eliza 164 points
Year 5’s Art work…
Year 5 have been busy finishing off their art work which is inspired by Manchester born artist Chris Ofili who uses colourful layering techniques. The theme of their work is Blackpool and the children have used different mediums including water colour paint, Brusho, chalk and metallic wax crayons to finish their work. Some children have also used tissue paper, feathers and beads to further layer their work.
Great TEAMWORK!
In our Bounce Forward session this week the children took part in a problem solving activity, called Cup Towers, which required the children to work in teams. The activity’s aim was to be able to work with each other and be resilient as a team.
The children had to build a pyramid tower of 10 cups without using their hands and instead using blu-tac, elastic bands, 4 straws, 2 pieces of cotton wool and a piece of tinfoil. As a team, the children decided on their roles - team leader, builders, time- keeper and resource manager - and they then had 15 minutes to complete the activity together as a team. They all worked so well together showing great communication, collaboration and resilience. Great work Year 5!
Our trip to Ascent…
Year 5 had a great afternoon at Ascent trampoline park on Wednesday for their well deserved treat funded by the PTA. The children took part in different challenges in groups and had a fantastic time. We are so proud of all the children, they were so well behaved and the Ascent team were also so impressed with them and said they were all a credit to the school! Well done Year 5 (and Year 6)!
We say goodbye to Elliot…
We send our very best wishes to Elliot and his family who are sadly leaving us and are going to start a new adventure in the United Arab Emirates. We hope you have a wonderful time Elliot, you will be sorely missed!
