This half term, our RE focus is Creation and Covenant. The children are now very familiar with the story of God’s creation, from their learning in previous years at our school and church, aswell as at home. In Year 3, we are looking closely at what happens in this powerful poem. A key message from the creation story is the importance of caring for our common home. Pope Francis reminds us of the importance of the first account of Creation. Pope Francis draws attention to the ‘profound teachings about human existence… They suggest that human life is grounded in three fundamental and closely intertwined relationships: with God, with our neighbour and with the earth itself.’

This week, the children have been thinking deeply about what being made in the image of God means for them and how they can try to reflect God in different ways. In our class worships, we have been thinking about Jesus being with us, the children have reflected on their days and been reminded that Jesus is with us and we can ask him to help us to make the right choices. The children have written their own personal prayers to God, asking for his help with specific things which they require help with.

In English, the children have been writing similes about the Iron Man. We have then moved onto planning our own ‘Approaching Threat Narrative’, which the children will be writing next week.

In Maths, we have been adding 3 digit numbers to 1 digit numbers. This has been challenging but the children are working really hard to understand this. Especially when the ones result in the tens number changing aswell!

In Science, the children have learned about the uses of skeletons in humans and some animals. We will continue to learn more about this next week.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guides give helpful advice about…

Among Us: a futuristic murder mystery that’s found an enthusiastic audience of young gamers.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.

  • This year we are collecting tinned food for the local food bank. We are asking each child to bring in a tin for our collection. Please donate, if you can, for this very worthy cause.

  • You will have received notification about Parent/Teacher meetings on MONDAY 16th OCTOBER - please make sure you follow the link to make an appointment. This is an important meeting to discuss how your child has settled into Year 3, the progress they are making and what you can do to support them at home. I look forward to seeing you all on this date. Thank-you

  • Please ensure the children bring their reading logs and books, water bottles and a coat every day.

  • Please see the homework on the Year 3 - homework section of the website. There is an additional optional homework activity, which has been printed and sent home with your child. This is explained on the homework page. Please return this by Friday 20th October.

  • PE Days are Tuesday and Thursday, no earrings on this day please. We do not want children to be taking them out in class.

  • Please ensure children can tie their own shoe laces, if they are wearing shoe laces to school.

  • Please make sure you contact the office if there is somebody else picking up your child at the end of the day, this includes other parents/carers at our school and family members/friends who do not regularly pick them up and are not known to us.

  • A reminder that the Year 3 email account is only checked once, weekly. This is not my preferred method of contact with you, I would prefer you to catch Mrs Dunford at the beginning of the day, myself at the end of the school day or a phone call to the office. Any emails received will be read, when I can, but they may not receive an email as a response. If I think it requires a response, you may get a phone call or I may catch you at the end of the day.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Holden and Mrs Dunford
