I am so pleased with how well all of the Year 3’s have settled into the Year 3 routine and expectations. We have managed to cover so much in 7 weeks. Looking at place value, and adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers with one and two digit numbers. We have had narrative and explanation text writing, we’ve covered a range of topics. The class have been so engrossed in their History topic, ‘The Stone Age’, and we have looked in-depth at 'Creation and Covenant’, linking this with our beliefs and making links with scripture.

Today we had our Harvest festival and we came together as a whole school to celebrate this. Thank you for your generous contributions to our Harvest collection, it’s' very much appreciated. The tins of food (over 500 tins!) will be going to a local food bank for people within the community, which I’m sure you’ll agree is a worthy cause. Thank you for your generous support!

This afternoon the children were very excited to have a visit from a therapy dog. The dog came in to visit all the children in a special assembly and after half term, he’ll be working with children in Year 2.

Here is what else we have been up to this week….

In Maths we have been learning how to use the column method to help us to add 3 digit and two digit numbers. We will continue to work using the column method after half term, which is why I have set some column method homework to be completed during the holidays please. It will really help the children to access our learning when we return, next week.

In English the children have written an explanation text this week. They have been so creative! The children were asked to plan how to capture the Iron Man. The class have also drawn their designs and annotated them. We also finished our class novel this week, I think a few children would like a copy of The Sheep Pig at home, we enjoyed it that much!

In RE we learned about co creators and de creators. The children decided they wanted to be co creators, as God made us all Stewards of his creation. The children thought about how they could help to look after God’s creation and wrote a letter to God.

In History we looked at artefacts and what they can tell us about the Stone Age. We also enjoyed reading the Stone Age Boy as a class.

This week we also had our first class mass. Year 3 had lots of compliments for their lovely behaviour in Church, welldone Year 3!
