As the world reacts to the sad news of the death of Pope Francis, we come together in prayer to give thanks for the life of such a special leader.
Pope Francis said that his own life story was a journey of hope. He understood that in a world that can feel scary or divided, God’s love and the hope it brings is needed more than ever. In fact, he made hope the theme of this Jubilee year.
This week we will join with the church throughout the world to pray for Pope Francis and to reflect on the role of the Pope in preparation for the upcoming papal election.

Our learning this week…
In English, we have been writing and editing our own stories based on the lost narrative text we have been studying. We have thought carefully about structuring our paragraphs to make sure our writing is clear and organised.
In Maths we have been adding and subtracting fractions, applying our knowledge to a range of real life word problems. We have also been developing our understanding of partitioning one whole into fractions using terminology such as numerator and denominator.
In History, we have started our new topic on Ancient Rome, this week we focused on making comparisons between daily life in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome. Children were encouraged to use skills of historical enquiry to form their own judgements and support their views.
As a school, we are always looking for ways to improve children’s engagement, so during the Summer term, the whole school will be taking part in a reading challenge. Children will receive a golden ticket each time they read and get their reading diary signed three times. At the end of each half term, during our celebration assembly, we will draw a golden ticket from each class’s box, and one winner from each class will receive a reward. Please encourage your child to read regularly and bring in their signed reading diary so they can start collecting their golden tickets. Thank you for your support.
