Good afternoon,
This Sunday, 24th November, marks the feast day of Christ the King. This represents the end of the church’s year. Christ the King is one of the most important titles of Jesus. Even though Jesus Christ was not a king in the earthly sense, He is the divine King of the Universe, who unites all of creation with the Father.
English - This week we have been focusing upon the features of a setting description, based upon the Night Gardener. We have created our own poems, explored the use of expanded noun phrases and commas and have planned our own descriptive sentences, following the structure of adjective, noun, verb, adverb.
Maths - We have focused on subtraction where we have to cross the previous 10 number. We learned a range of methods, including partitioning, number lines and drawing base ten.
Science - We set up an investigation to understand the importance of good hygiene by touching bread with washed hands, sanitised hands, water soaked hands and unwashed hands. We look forward to seeing what happens!
RE - We learned about Mary’s Magnificat song of praise when she visited Elizabeth and finally realised how important she was going to be. We thought about ways in which we could live Mary’s examples and wrote a prayer to her explaining these.
History - We used our knowledge of 1900s schools to compare and contrast specific features of 1900s schools and modern schools.
PE - Our indoor PE sessions focused upon bouncing a ball skills and our outdoor PE focused on kicking a ball.
Computing - We learned about AI and machine learning by playing an online drawing game called ‘Quick Draw’.
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.
Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home today. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.
As always, please continue to read. This is the most important way you can support your child!
Spelling
Both groups words this week focus on the -y suffix (makes an /ee/ sound) to create adjectives. This rule requires us to remove the e at the end of words before adding -y.
There is also a handwriting sheet.
Writing
Creating exclamation sentences.
Maths
Subtracting ones with an exchange using base ten worksheet.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Christmas cards - We are unable to hand out Christmas cards in class, due to the huge amount of time this requires. We ask that if you want to give out Christmas cards to the other children, please could you do this in the playground before or after school. Many thanks!
Monday 18th November - Wild Animals VR experience in school. We ask parents for a small contribution towards this experience which can be paid over parent pay. For further information, please see this flyer.
Friday 29th November - KS1 movie night 4.30-6.15 in the school hall. Tickets available via parent pay at £2.50. Children to come in PJs and they can bring a teddy or blanket/pillow. Snack and drink included.
Friday 6th December - Christmas Fair. 3.30-5.30. More details to follow on this.
10.12.24 Year 1 and 2 Nativity! There will be two performances at 9.30am and 2pm. (Keep an eye out for any slight time changes.) Each child will be sent two tickets for each performance. These are free but we have to limit numbers as it is for two classes and we can only physically fit so many people safely in the hall at once. Many thanks for your understanding.
On Monday, Year 2 had a wonderful time with their VR experience educational visit. Here are a few photos from the session.
Have a lovely weekend!
