Good afternoon everyone,
This week in our liturgies we have been talking about John and how he came to pave the way for Jesus. John baptised people with water when they asked him how they could follow the Lord….but told them that soon someone would come who would baptised them with the Holy Spirit and fire. We have learnt about how at the Baptism of Jesus people heard the voice of God for the first time and how the gift of the Hold Spirit was seen through the image of a dove.
English - In English we have explored illustrations of of Bluebell Wood from The Bog Baby and have done lots of vocabulary and sentence building which has built up to creating our own setting descriptions.
Maths - In Maths we completed our work on addition and subtraction - although we will regularly be revisiting these key skills - and have now begun our work on money by exploring the various denominations of coins and notes and their values.
Science - In Science we explored the seven life processes (MRS GREN) and what it means to be alive. We explored the difference between things that are alive, were once alive (dead) and have never been alive (non-living), with reference to the 7 life processes.
RE - In RE, we have been learning about Jesus’ baptism by John at the River Jordan. We retold the story as a letter. We also then explored various artwork which represented the Holy Trinity and explained the significance of these representations.
Geography - We learned about three of the ways islands can be formed - volcanoes, coral, rising sea levels. We wrote descriptions of the process.
PE - Our Wednesday PE session worked on throwing and catching a tennis ball. Our Friday PE session focused upon travelling and jumping in different ways and combining these to make a sequence.
Computing - We type our names and explored text formatting, including font style, font size and font colour; as well as bold, italic and underline formatting.
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. Please continue to use TTRockstars to practise times tables.
Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.
Spelling
There is no spelling test this week. However, I have home some work to practise correctly spelling common exception words.
Times Table
We will revist the 5 times table as many children strufggled with this last week. There will be a challenge for those who are confident.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
