Good afternoon everyone,
This week in our liturgies we have been talking about how even though Jesus lived an incredibly busy life of healing people and teaching about God, he still found time to pray.
We have been thinking about how we can find time in our own busy lives to sit calmly and in stillness to speak to God. We discussed how there are many ways to praise God, including praying, singing, dancing, showing kindness and using our talents. We also learned that we can also think about what we want to say to God without saying this out loud and God will still hear us.
English - This week we have been analysing our class text and example text. We have explored the use of commas for lists, created to descriptive sentences using adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs and used these to make poems. We have also explored the features of our zoomed in description text.
Maths - In Maths we are growing in confidence with our money work. We have been making amounts of money in different ways, exploring pounds and pence as combined but separate amounts and compared money using greater than, less than and equal to.
Science - In Science we learned about woodland habitats and described some of the adaptation of the plants and animals which live in this environment.
RE - In RE, we looked at what is meant by Good News and how Jesus and the Gospel brought the news of God’s love and forgiveness. We discussed how Jesus’ actions and miracles showed this love and forgiveness. We also began to think about what Lent means for us as Catholics and how we will act, give and pray to become closer to God.
History - We wrote letters to the Prime Minister explaining the reasons why we think Mary Seacole deserves her own statue. They have been posted so we anxiously await a reply!
PE - Our Wednesday PE session focused upon hitting a tennis ball to our partner using a racket. Our Friday PE focused on dribbling a ball, turning around and passing.
Computing - We used the keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste animal facts.
Art - We evaluated our art work so far.
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.
Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.
Half Term
As it is half term, I will not be setting any homework. Please continue to practise your money and times tables.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
We marked Safer Internet Day takes place on Tuesday - 6th February. This year's theme is: ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online’. This is a very important part of our work to keep children safe online. Please spare a few minutes at home on this day to talk about what the children have learnt in school and how they keep safe online. I have added the story we read to help us understand being safe on the internet if you wish to take a look. Many thanks.
Monday 19th February - Return to school after half term
22.3.24 - Time to be confirmed (should be afternoon) - KS1 Palm Liturgy in Church.
We wish you all a peaceful half term and we will see you in a week’s time,
Mr Whetnall, Mrs Bowdell and Mrs Hall
