Good afternoon everyone,
This week our worship has focused on Jesus telling us about the good things God has prepared for us in heaven. He invites us all, whether we always make the right choices or even if we often make wrong choices, to live a loving life and serve God in the best way we can.
We have been encouraging the children to share their love and kindness with others so we can spread Jesus’ message that everyone is welcome in God’s Kingdom.
English - This week for our work on explanation texts we have planned and written our frog life cycle texts, trying to use all the key features we have learned about.
Maths - In Maths we have continued our work in counting on and back in 3s and have attempted to solve word problems invovling this. We have also been learning about fact families and how we can use these to make solving maths problems a little easier. We have attempted to create fact families where the equals symbol has moved to the front of the calculation and have worked hard on this, although we have found it tricky!
Science - We learned about the basic needs of animals and the additional needs they may also have. We created animal care sheets to explain these needs to others.
RE - We learned about and retold the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den.
History - We learned in more detail about Samuel Pepys. We created posters to explain his life and why he was significant.
PE - Our indoor PE sessions focused upon dance and our outdoor session focused on passing and moving skills.
Art - We created our own Great Fire of London Tudor-style houses.
During school holidays I do not set homework. However please continue to…
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.
Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home today. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.
As always, please continue to read. This is the most important way you can support your child!
Golden Award - Poppy - for her kindness and friendship towards others in class.
Writing Award - Marianna - for a wonderful frog life cycle explanation.
Maths Award - Buddy - for excellent fact family reasoning.
Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
It was lovely to see you all on Parents Day. We hope it was helpful to you.
At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guides give helpful advice about…
EA Sports FC 24 This is the spiritual successor to FIFA which is likely to be a similarly spectacular hit among young football fans.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.
On Thursday, we had a visit from volunteers of the NSPCC charity. They came to speak to Year 2 about their right to speak out when they feel afraid, unsafe, hurt or in need of help. The children thought about 5 adults they trusted to speak to both inside and outside school and learned about Childline if they feel they don’t have anyone else to talk to. You will all have received a booklet we started during the session to look at at home.
Have a lovely half term. We will see you on Tuesday 31st October for our return to school.
Kind regards,
Mr Whetnall, Mrs Bowdell and Miss Sanderson
