Good afternoon everyone,
In this Fourth Week of Advent, our final days of preparation before Christmas, we ask Christ to forgive us for our sins and, through His grace, to create us anew when He comes. This week is also a time to recollect, to reflect on our Advent journey.
We hope that this last week of Advent is filled with the Love of the Season and you feel the Love of Lord within your homes and families.
In class we will be thinking about how we can love others, as Jesus loves us. We will try our best to support and love each other in class and prepare ourselves for Jesus to return. We know that this can be a difficult task, especially to love those who do not seem to want our love or who do not try to love us back but we will try our best to put love into the hearts of others in our school.
This week we spent Monday performing our Nativity.
English - We further delved into the features of a circular narrative and practised using commas for lists in descriptive sentences.
Maths - We have continued to practise subtraction with a range of mixed questions.
Science - We completed an assessment of what we had learned in our animals, including humans unit.
RE - This week we have been learning all about the Christmas story. We learned about the visit of angels to the shepherds and why this is a significant story.
Art - We have done lots of Christmas arts and crafts, including cards, calendars and gonks (the little bearded gnome-folk!).
Nativity - The children did a fantastic job! I hope you all enjoyed the show.
Please continue to practise the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words - both reading and spelling!
We will also be sending home sheets with the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables to practise at home. Please practise these over the coming weeks.
Other Tasks
There will be no homework next week and over the Christmas break as you all deserve a rest! Please continue to read regularly and practise you 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables!
As always, the MOST important way that you can support your child is by reading regularly! Please do this as regularly as possible over the break!
Golden Award - All of Year 2 - for their wonderful Nativity performances!
ear 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
We return for Spring term on Monday 8th January 2024.
At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…
Top Tips for Setting up Parental Controls on New Devices - This guide provides some valuable advice on setting up new devices so that children can use them safely.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.
Have a lovely weekend and a peaceful Christmas,
Mr Whetnall, Mrs Bowdell and Mrs Gibbons
