This week we have continued to focus on the story of Creation and that each of us is made in the image of the Lord. We have begun to think about God’s love for us and know that He loves us because…….just because. There are no conditions, there are no exceptions, we ARE all loved by God.
English - this week we have been working on the set 2 RWI sounds and have been working on holding a sentence in our head and then independently writing it down.
Maths - this week we have been working on how to record a number as a digit, a word, as a picture…multiply ways of showing the same information.
RE - we have continued our new topic on Creation by looking at all the ways God has shown through the Creation story how He loves us.
History - we have continued on topic on Our Family by investigating toys and the differences between the types of toys that we play with now and those that were played with in the past. Great fun was had by all!
Science - this week we experimented with instruments in our work on our senses….this week all about hearing. We made loud sounds, quiet sounds and everything in between!! We learnt about sound waves and vibrations.
Computing - we looked at what is and isn’t a computer in our environment.
Many congratulations to this week’s winners…..

To support our History topic on Our Family could I please ask you to send in a picture of your child with their family for our display board. I know it is tricky to get a picture of everyone, but if you have one and our happy to share, please send one into school. We will ensure you get these pictures back. If you don’t have a hard copy you can email one to me at year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk Thank-you
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle this week. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Veasey and Mrs Connolly and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Veasey and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bag - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! Yr1 Homework — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School (squarespace.com)
Please join us if you can on MONDAY 25th SEPTEMBER at 2-3pm in the school hall where Miss Heim-Sarac and I will be going through what we do in school and the importance of early phonics. We will discuss the elements of our lessons, how you can help your child at home and why phonics is so important to your child’s early reading and writing.
At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guides give helpful advice about…
Live streaming - This free online safety guide profiles live streaming – a hugely popular activity among young people that’s certainly not without hazards.
Setting boundaries around gaming - This looks at the benefits of setting boundaries around video gaming to help young people learn healthy online habits.
WhatsApp - This o is an updated examination of WhatsApp – the globally popular messaging platform which contains both old and new hazards for young users.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.
I love to share photos of your child’s learning on the website each week…but before I can do that I need your permission! Please check the letter that came home during the week and return the forms as soon as you can. I will not share any photos of your children until all those letters come back in. Many thanks.
And finally…..have a lovely weekend….Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and the Year 1 team
