Welcome back to school….and to Year 1!
I know the children don’t actually start back until Monday, but Mrs Veasey and I are back at school today busy getting ready for the children’s return. With this in mind I thought I would just mention a few things now so that the children knew what to expect when they return.
On Monday morning I will greet the children at the door.
When they come into class they will each have a named place which they should find.
The children will all be given NEW school water bottles so they do not need to bring their own or their old school one!
The children will then go to find their named coat peg for their bag and coat. Please can I ask that children continue to bring their red school reading bag that they were given in Reception. We do not have room to store large bags. Please can I ask you not to put keyrings on the children’s bags - many thanks.
Mrs Veasey and I will put any packed lunch boxes on the cupboard as the children walk into class.
In Year 1 each child will be given a place to sit and work for the half term and a partner to work with. These will be changed each half term. The children will be able to earn points for their table and these will be counted up each week and the winning table will get a prize from my treat box! Points are given for being ready, lovely manners, quiet voices and hard work - as a table, not just individuals.
Please can I ask you to ensure that all clothes are fully named - particularly new jumpers which are often taken off in class. I would hate brand new uniform to get muddled in the first week.
If your child is wearing lace up shoes/trainers for school they must be able to tie them themselves. This is an important safety issue. Many thanks for your support with this.
I will be in touch again next week with details about PE days and reading books.
Year 1 is a big change from Reception…..we understand this and will work closely with you all over the next few weeks to ensure your child is settled into their new class.
Many thanks and I look forward to getting to know you all myself over the coming days and weeks.
Mrs Hollinghurst and all the Year 1 team.
