This week we have talked about placing our trust in Jesus and why this is sometimes tricky. The children came up with some very thoughtful ideas as to why we find it difficult trust God…..the most popular response being that it is hard to put your trust in someone you cannot see. It is. We have talked about how this requires faith and how this is something we develop and work on every day.
English - all back to normal with phonics and or RWI lessons this week!! You will receive your child’s phonics screening result in their report at the end of the year.
Maths - this week has been all about measuring length and height. We have spent a lot of time using the correct vocabulary and comparing objects, using set sentences to help us clarify our thinking. We have also used cubes to do some non-standard measuring - which was great fun!
RE - this week has been all about the Church and what we do when we go to Church. We have looked at prayer, listening to the word of God, singing hymns of praise and Holy Communion. Importantly we have focused on what people of faith are then asked to DO and how our ACTIONS should match our words.
Art - everything else this week has been about ART!! We have had a very special week this week based on the theme of Communication through the Sky Arts Week. Our focus has been mark making through drawing, doodling, painting which different types of paint and using tints and tones to represent light and dark. We even had a visit form Mrs Veasey to help us in our Art work this week - which the children all LOVED!
We have had a super week…but it not over yet! We will continue this work into the afternoons of next week as we have had so much fun and have not yet been able to work on what will be our final piece of work. See Photos at the end of the blog.
Once completed you will be invited into class to see all the children’s work, but this will NOT be Friday 28th June as originally planned for and mentioned in last week’s blog as we will not be ready! Please just keep an eye on this page for when class will be open for you to pop in and have a look. Many thanks.
Many congratulations to this week’s winners…
Golden Award - Arthur fro working hard to learn his initial and complex sounds in Phonics and apply these to read known and unknown words.
Writing Award -Davern for demonstrating improvements in pencil grid and letter formation - I knew you could do it, keep up the hard work!
Maths Award - Philip for working hard on his number formation, especially writing the number 8.
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle this week. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have white tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Gilheaney and Miss Simons and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Miss Simons and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bag - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! Yr1 Homework — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School (squarespace.com)
