This week we have been examining the Nicene Creed and what we, as Catholics, believe about God. We have studies the first part of the creed and what this means for us and we have discussed what we believe about God. We had the most lovely discussion in class and the children have produced some beautiful work about what they believe abut God the Father. Maybe this is something you can re-visit this weekend at home or in Mass.
English - this week we have been working on the set 2 RWI sounds and have been working on holding a sentence in our head and then independently writing it down.
Maths - this week we have been working on comparing amounts of counters, using the vocabulary of more and fewer. Fewer is not a word the children were familiar with, but it is the word we use when comparing amounts - less is used to compare numbers. We have practiced using thee words in our key sentences this week and applied the vocabulary in our independent work.
RE - we have continued our new topic on Creation by looking at the Nicene Creed and examining what Catholics believe about God.
History - we have continued on topic on history within living memory by comparing past and present and who birthday celebrations and family life has changed - and in many ways also said the same!
Science - this week we investigated taste. Great fun was had by all tasting different coloured jelly beans and describing their flavour.
Computing - this week we learnt how to safety turn on, log into, log out and switch off our laptops.
Art - the children investigated water colours through the work of the artist Jasper Johns and his number series.
This week’s winners are….
Golden Award - Sophia for demonstrating a caring and kind nature to all her classmates - Sophia is a super role model within our class.
Writing Award - Theodore for thoughtful and reflective writing in RE about what he believes about God.
Maths Award - Louie for demonstrating a sound knowledge and understanding this week of more and fewer.
General pieces of information
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Trainers - if your children is wearing trainers with laces for PE they must be able to tie them by themselves. This is a health and safety issue - please ensure your child can tie their laces before sending them in lace-up trainers.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle this week. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have orange tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Debowska and Mrs McCooey and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Debowska and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bag - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS - YEAR 1 — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School (squarespace.com)
This year we are collecting tinned food for the local food bank. We are asking each child to bring in one tin for our collection. Please donate, if you can, for this very worthy cause. The children can bring their tins into class, where we have a donation box. Many thanks to those who have donated already.
