This week we have continued to focus on the story of Creation and that each of us is made in the image of the Lord. We have begun to think about God’s love for us and know that He loves us because…….just because. There are no conditions, there are no exceptions, we ARE loved by God.
English - we have continued on with our RWI lessons. During these sessions we all focus on phonics, reading, spelling and sentence development. We have also been working on our pre-cursive handwriting in which we focus on how to write our letters, starting on the line.
Maths - this week we have continued with our work on Variation - the many different ways in which we show a number, either as a digit, a word, the number on a dice, with our fingers…..the list is endless!! We have looked at comparing all these different ways to show a number and found that although they all look different, they mean the same. That is our little mantra….same but different! We have also started to look at number order and making one more or one less on a number track. Busy, busy!
RE - this half term is all about Creation - we have started by looking at the Creation story and the wonderful world that the Lord that created for us. We have also started to write ‘I wonder…’ questions and what questions we have about creation and the world around us.
Science - our topic this half term is all about our bodies. This week we focused on our sense of touch, sight and taste….good fun was had by all during our Jelly Bean taste test!
History - our focus is all about ourselves and life within our living memory. This week we have looked at toys from the past and toys that we play with and started to compare the two. What can we find that is the same and what is different?
Art - the children have started their Painting unit with work all about the primary colous and learning about how to use different brush strokes.
All the children have worked hard this week, but these are our certificate winners….
Golden Award - Oscar for super answers in RE about the Creation story and why God created humans last. A very thoughtful and reflective answer Oscar.
Writing Award - William for super independent sentences in RWI and working very hard on developing his pre-cursive handwriting
Maths Award - Luke for super independent work on one more and one less this week.
Phonics is at the very heart of all that we do in Year 1. With that in mind, I thought you may find this link useful to the Oxford owl website. This a super website for parents to support phonics work at home, but this particular page has a useful little video half way down to help you support your child at home with the sounds that they are learning and the need for correct punctuation. Please check it out and even watch it with your child - how many of these sounds do they know?

CALLING ALL FAMILY PICTURES!!!
This half term our main focus is ourselves and our family, in order to support this work we like to make a ‘family tree’ of all our Year 1 families. Please could I ask you to send in a family picture of our display board. This could just be the people in our household, or your wider family, which ever is easiest for you. Please ensure your child’s name is on the picture and we will ensure it is returned to you during the year. Alternatively, you could email me a picture at the Year 1 email address and I can print it out in school. Many thanks.
And finally…have a lovely weekend. Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and Miss Sanderson.
