In this Fourth Week of Advent, our final days of preparation before Christmas, we ask Christ to forgive us for our sins and, through His grace, to create us anew when He comes. This week is also a time to recollect, to reflect on our Advent journey.
We hope that this last week of Advent is filled with the Love of the Season and you feel the Love of Lord within your homes and families.
Due to our Christmas themed activities, we have had a slightly broken week this week, but in between practicing and performing we have been…..
English - we have continued with our RWI groups, working on our own phonics group work. We have been focusing on reading, spelling and own independent writing. We have also been continuing with our Phonics assessments this week which show that the children are all made good progress this term.
Maths - this week has been all about number bonds and using our ten frames to support our work on ‘how many more’ are needed to make 10. The children have used ten frames and drawings to show how many are needed
RE - this week it has been all about the Nativity story and the birth of Jesus, with our main focus being on the shepherds.
Geography - we completed our work on the continents by focusing on Antarctica.
Art - has been all about Christmas cards and calendars this week!
And the winners are….
Golden Award - Sebastian for super learning this half term in Geography, learning all about the seven continents of the world.
Writing Award - Patrick for beautiful pre-cursive writing and for writing with such care about the Nativity story this week.
Maths - Theodore for super, organised, work on the number bonds to 10 this week.
General pieces of information
PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.
Trainers - if your children is wearing trainers with laces for PE they must be able to tie them by themselves. This is a health and safety issue - please ensure your child can tie their laces before sending them in lace-up trainers.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle this week. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have orange tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Debowska and Mrs McCooey and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Debowska and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bag - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS - YEAR 1 — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary
A huge THANK-YOU for all the cards and gifts we received at the end of the term. Mrs Debowska, Mrs Connolly and I are extremely grateful for your kind generosity.
Many thanks to all those families who welcomed the Travelling Nativity into their homes. This has been a huge success and the children have enjoyed sharing and showing their work each day. I really hope it brought some Advent joy into your homes - just sorry it didn’t travel to everyone’s home.
