We have continued to talk about the wonders of God’s Creation this week and our place within the world. The children have continued to amaze me this week with the way that they have settled into the routines of Year 1 and what was once new, has now become familiar! All we need is a little time.
This week we have been learning…..
English - we have continued our work in our RWI groups, focusing on phonics, reading, spelling, handwriting and independent sentence construction. In our class work was have been working on the letter ‘b’ and how to write it pre-cursively - all out letters MUST start on the line - and working on reading and writing our common exception words.
Maths - this week has all been about variation and showing a number in a variety of different ways - as a digit, a word, a drawing and on our ten frames. The children have done very well with this. In Fluent in Five we have focused on doubling, halving, adding and subtraction numbers up to 10.
RE - this week has been all about Creation and writing ‘I wonder’ questions - what do we wonder about the wonderful world that God has created. Why is the sky blue? Why did God create people last?
Science - this week we have begun our focus on Humans in our Animal topic and have labelled all the parts of the body.
History — this week we focused on our own time line and organised seom key events that have taken place in our lives so far - like being born and staying school!
Art - see our photos at the bottom of the blog!!
We are very proud of all the children, but these are the children who we are particularly celebrating this week….
Golden Award - Penny for being a wonderful role model in Year 1 and helping a friend in need.
Writing Award - Matilda for beautiful handwriting and super presentation of work in all subjects
Maths Award - Frazer for explaining how to find half of a number - very clearly
Unfortunately Covid 19 has not gone away and we continue to have safety measures is school to ensure the safety of your child, the other children in class and the adults in school too.
Teachers continue to wear face masks in shared areas and visors in class
Children are required to wash their hands when they come in school and when they return after play - as well as before lunch.
Children in Year 1 have their own bag of pencils and materials to minimise the amount of sharing of equipment.
Books are still being put aside for 72 hours. before been given to another child if they have gone home.
Please can you ensure that you do not send your child to school if they are showing ANY symptoms of Covid 19 or are UNWELL IN ANY WAY. Please take them for a test if they have Covid symptoms or do a lateral flow at home- we all have to continue to do our bit to keep everyone safe and keep the children in school. Many thanks for your support with this matter.
If your child is isolating from school due to Covid 19 and they are well enough to work, you can find their work on the HOME LEARNING page of the Year 1 section of the website. I have using Oak Academy units as they all contain a little video and a task for the children to complete that does not require you to print anything - your child just needs a piece of paper and a pencil!! And maybe some colours for the art activities! https://www.ourladyassumption-sch.co.uk/yr1-home-learning
Please DO NOT send the work into school with your child on their return, but send photos of it through Class Dojo and add work to your child’s profile. You will each get an invite to this through the email you gave to school when your child was in Reception.
If your child is off school, please inform the office and NOT the Year 1 email or Class Dojo. Many thanks
And finally……any questions or queries either catch me or Mrs Veasey at the gate or email using year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk.
Thanks so much for all the lovely family photos you have sent in so far - if you have not sent yours in yet, please do so when you can. Many thanks.
Have a lovely weekend……Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Veasey
