Dear Year 1,
Just a little reminder of happy times together….the photograph of you all dressed in your World Book costumes has been my screen saver this year and I think it is how I will always remember you! Mrs Veasey will always think of you as little Pirates - we had such a good day that day, didn’t we! Well, the time has come for me to say goodbye to you all as our Year 1 journey has come to an end, and what a journey it has been. It has been my absolute pleasure being your teacher this year; you have been such a wonderful class and Mrs Veasey and I have loved every minute of it. We haven’t had the chance to end the year as we would have wished, but we will never forget our time together. We are both just so proud of how hard you have worked at home for your parents - learning has been a little bit different, but I can see the progress you have made. Your pre-cursive handwriting is just amazing! Well done to you all. So, we hope you have an amazing summer and fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us all. Be good. stay safe, keep reading and know that Mrs Veasey and I are so proud of you. Lots and lots of love…Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Veasey xxx
END OF YEAR REPORTS - WILL BE EMAILED TO YOU ON THURSDAY 16TH JULY. If you did not send me an email address, then your child’s report will be posted to you.
This week we are learning…..
This week the focus form the Home Learning Unit is all about Transition - saying goodbye, reflecting on the year and thinking about moving forward. I have not added a separate English unit this week (although you may still have work from the previous Pie Corbett Talk for Writing booklet that you wish to complete) as I think it is important for the children to ‘finish’ Year 1 and think about moving into Year 2 - if we were in school these are the type of activities we would be working on. There are some lovely activities here; making a memory jar, thinking about the success of the year and their hopes for the future - we could use a little hope at the moment. It is important for the children to know that things will get better and they do have many things to look forward to in school. I will look forward to seeing what they come up with for these project. Please add your photos to Class Dojo.
Keeping reading, working on your Common Exception Words, your pre-cursive handwriting and phonics. The following resources may help with these aspects of the children’s work.

Maths - this week our focus is all about Time. This can also be a tricky concept - but seeing how well Year 1 did with money - I am sure they will fly with this too!

This week the Oddizzi Unit is all about Country Close Up - I hope you enjoy this unit.
Fr Jim continues to post work for the children on his site and you can watch his Mass postings here too. https://www.olablackpool.org/children-s-page
This week I am in school on Monday and Wednesday - I will do my best to reply to many messages sent on those days.
SUMMER LEARNING - Just a few ideas to keep the children occupied over the summer!
Check out the summer reading challenge at your local library https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/
You can still access free ebooks on Oxford Oxl https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/
Check out the Summer Resource Books - little activity booklets for each Maths area https://whiterosemaths.com/resources/primary-resources/parent-workbooks/
You can still access the BBC Bitesize site, along with Education City and SumDog over the summer.
Writing a diary is also a good way of keeping the children’s writing going over the summer. Just a few sentences of what they have done each day - also acts as a lovely reminder of what you have been up to!
This is the final Oddizzi Plan - if you fancy it!
These activities are entirely optional - I will not be responding to emails or Class Dojo posts after Friday 17th July, so no need to send me their work.
And finally…….
Parents - what can I say? I will be forever in your debt for all that you have done over the past four months to support me and your wonderful children. Little did we know on 20th March when the children went home from school that they would not be back before the end of the school year. It broke my heart to say goodbye to them on that wet Friday afternoon in the way that we did. I have found these last four months very difficult without them - I am a teacher, that is what I do, and it is quite tricky when you don’t actually have the children in front of you to teach. Turns out, working in front of a laptop everyday is not for me. I have missed the buzz of our class; the chatter of little people, the stories they tell, the smiles on their faces - I have missed them. As a Mummy, it has been joyous to have my daughter at home with me for the last four months and to have that time with her that I know I will never have again. I hope, despite the challenges (and believe me, there have been many) that you have also enjoyed spending this quality time with your children. Thank-you from the bottom of my heart for all the work and photos that you have sent through Class Dojo and email during this time, I have loved seeing what the children have been up to and seeing their smiling faces. Thank-you for the lovely messages you have sent me personally - I have been humbled by your kindness. I am proud of what we have managed to achieve this term by working together.
Thank-you so much and may God bless you and your wonderful families.
