Thank you all so much for supporting our Children In Need collection today. The children enjoyed being in their own clothes and they looked fantastic! It has given us the chance to talk to the children about all the wonderful work the charity does to support young people.
It has been a busy couple of weeks in Reception. Our theme in Reception last week was Maths and this week it was Nursery Rhymes. We have based our activities in our classroom around these two themes. We have also started daily guided reading sessions (just ten minutes a day) to start to help the children to fully understand and explore the texts they are hearing. Last week, our focus book was ‘The Perfect Fit’ and this week it was ‘The big book of Nursery Rhymes’.
Phonics - the children have learnt four new sounds this week - ‘h’ - down the head to the hooves and over his back, ‘sh’ - shhhh says the horse to the hissing snake, ‘r’ - down his back, then curl over his arm and ‘j’ - down his body curl and dot. We have also been practicing how to blend each day.
Literacy - we have continued our Supertato writing unit. This week, we focused on vocabulary and asking questions.
Understanding the world - we created a timeline. We will add to this as we learn about other world events throughout the year.
PSHE - we spoke about being respectful and what this means.
Expressive Art & Design - the children have created their own clocks based on ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’.
Communication & Language - we read the book Oi Frog! and then with rhyming words from the book we played a game of odd one out.
P.E. - the children practiced climbing this week using the climbing frame. They were very excited!

Christmas Movie Night/PTA updates
The PTA would like to invite the children in Reception and KS1 back in to school on Friday 2nd December for a Christmas movie night! The children can wear Christmas pyjamas or clothing and for a cost of £2, they will be able to enjoy some festive treats as they watch the film. We are going to ask for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 to come back to school at 4.30pm until 6pm. If your child would like to attend, please pay the requested £2 via parentpay.
Secondly, after each of the 2pm nativity performances, the PTA would like to invite parents in to the dining hall for refreshments (non alcoholic mulled wine and mince pies). There will be a nominal cost for this. The PTA will also be selling raffle tickets at each performance - there will be some fantastic prizes on offer and all monies raised will go towards PTA funds.
Boogie Woogie Nativity
The children have now all come home with their lines for our nativity. Please practice as much as you can with them at home. We will of course practice lots in school too, and the children now pretty much know all the songs so we are making good progress! Our nativity will be on the 13th December at 2pm - each child will be allocated 4 tickets for this performance for their families to attend.
Milk carton request
Thank you so much for all of your donations of milk cartons. Unfortunately, we still don’t have enough so please send in all of your empty 4 pint cartons so that our igloo can come to life! Thank you.
Wednesday Word
We are delighted to be able to share with you the Good News Gospel readings for families. Please follow the link to share the Gospel at home with your family. These are really child-friendly resources to share at home. https://www.paperturn-view.com/uk/wednesday-word/faithfulness?pid=MTA101634&v=74.6
Notices
A reminder to please ensure that all jumpers and cardigans are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Please ensure your child’s water bottle is returned to school each day.
As we get closer to Christmas it is inevitable that bugs will start to circulate in the class. I just wanted to advise you that children can only return to school 48 hours after their last incident of sickness and diarrhoea. Thank you for your support with this.
Have a wonderful weekend!
