You will know that Our Lady of the Assumption hasn't run a Holiday Club for several years - however we were approached this week by Blackpool Football Club to ask if they could 'trial' a club at Our Lady's this coming half-term!

We have agreed to host the club which will be run by the sports coaches from BFC - many of whom the children will know from the sports clubs, football etc held here at Our Lady's. The club will run from 8am - 5pm beginning on Monday 30th October until Friday 3rd November.

The cost of the club is £10 per day.

Please do not contact school regarding bookings - but on the leaflet attached there is a phone number and social media links where you can get further information.

You can see the leaflet by clicking HERE....

I know that drop-off times around 8.45am and also at the end of the school day become very busy with cars around our school perimeter. Unfortunately, due to the amount of families trying to park as close as possible to the school building mornings and afternoons are noticeably becoming increasingly dangerous for those who are walking with their children and also the older children walking themselves.

I was horrified to hear that yesterday some parents were actually mounting the pavement in their rush to try to park at/around Thornhill Close.

I am sure I do not have to explain to you the danger that poses to our families and particularly our young children, who are already difficult to see when driving.

I am really surprised and upset that parents are not giving due regard to each other and trying to ensure the safety of all when bringing children to school. I'm sure it would not take too much for parents to park in some of the nearby streets and walk children to school - we do currently have the children looking out for times that they can walk!!!!

Please. please don't endanger a child's life and take extra care in cars!

On Monday 9th October, eight of our Year 5 children made the journey to Stanley Park to take part in a very exciting tournament, arranged by Blackpool Football Club!

We all had a fabulous time and showed off not just our amazing football skills but the amazing qualities that Our Lady's children really pride themselves on - humility, kindness, resilience and strength of character.

The cup started with a mini-league. We had four games to play. In our first game, we drew 1-1 with St Kentigern's. In our second game, we managed to fend off Baines Endowed to win 3-2. Our third game against Waterloo ended 1-0 to Waterloo and our fourth game ended 4-0 to Hawes Side.

We finished third in our group of five and Mr Whetnall couldn't have been any more proud of how each and every player conducted themselves and showed off all of their fantastic talents.

Well done, Our Lady's FC!

Year 2 -         Italy - green, white and red

Year 5 -         Spain - red and yellow

Year 6 -         Greece - blue and white

During the afternoon the children will engage in activities about their chosen country. Thank you for your support in this day!

Many of you passing by school this holiday might have had a huge shock...

You may have seen the huge diggers which have now demolished part of our school field and thought that we were having extensive building works undertaken!

This is in fact all part of the work that United Utilities are undertaking in the South Shore area over the next few years. As you will probably already know, United Utilities are working across Blackpool to increase the capacity of the sewer network, reduce the volume of surface water entering the sewer network and update the existing wastewater pumping station at Lennox Gate. This obviously involves the building of the underground storage tank in Fishers Field on Highfield Road to hold excess storm water.

This has already impacted greatly upon our local environment as we can all see.

In this current phase of work United Utilities are then trying to identify the locations of surface water (rainwater) connections to the sewer network.                                                                                                         So the phase of work involving our field is a small piece of the huge network of pipework sending this surface water directly to sea via a brand new dedicated surface water pumping station.

It looks a real mess at the moment - but the pipes will be laid and the field back to normal again before we return to school on Tuesday 5th September... we just need to hope the grass grows back quickly!!!!

There is a leaflet you can access here  which will give you some more information about the project. Alternatively you can visit United Utilities website and read more about the works in our area. (Link below)

https://www.unitedutilities.com/help-and-support/about-us/lancashire/blackpool-south/

I will try to get some photos to let everyone see what has been happening.                                               United Utilities are also willing to come into school and talk to the children about what has been happening during the holidays and have promised to make a slideshow of the works to let us all see!

Should be interesting!
